Heart of Australia Brings Specialist Care to Tieri

Heart of Australia has been providing vital cardiology and respiratory services to Tieri residents through its mobile health clinic, the 'Heart Truck since 2023. In partnership with Tieri Medical Practice, they’ve delivered 82 appointments so far, receiving positive feedback from both patients and local healthcare professionals. With quarterly visits confirmed for 2025, Heart of Australia is also expanding its reach nationally, launching mobile lung cancer screening services and continuing specialist women’s health clinics in nearby Middlemount.

New Sports Group – Social Netball

In a town rich with sporting options, local resident Natalie Martell has added something new to the mix with the launch of a social netball group. What began as a casual way to reconnect with the sport has quickly grown into a thriving community activity, with 95 players of all ages and skill levels already involved. We caught up with Natalie to learn more about the group, how to get involved, and her hopes for its future within the Tieri community.

With snake season upon us, we reached out to Maraboon Vet Surgery in Emerald to ask for their advice on how to keep our pets safe. Here’s what Dr Angela Sutherland had to say… "Our curious and favourite four-legged friends have natural hunting instincts so it’s no surprise they may cross paths with a snake. Now that the weather is warming up, the snakes are on the move and we are likely to see a lot more snakes on our daily walks or in our backyards"

With a career spanning 22 years across schools in Capella, Mackay, and Emerald, Susan brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a deep connection to the local community. We sat down with Susan to hear about her teaching journey, what drives her as an educator, and her vision for Tieri State School’s students, staff, and families.

Old Inspector’s Hut Donated to Capella Pioneer Village

Oaky Creek Coal (OCC) has donated the 140-year-old inspector's hut from Capella Railway Station to Capella Pioneer Village. Built in the early 1880s, the hut once housed railway inspectors before being relocated to Oak Park in the 1980s. Now, through OCC's community investment initiative, the hut returns to Capella to become part of the village's railway heritage collection.
