Tell us about yourself and how you came up with the idea for Igniting Dance.
Igniting Dance Studio began as a small spark — a love of movement and a deep belief that dance can help young people grow into confident, resilient, and connected individuals.

My own journey with dance started in childhood, where I explored different styles simply for the joy of it. Some of my most special memories are learning old-time dances with my grandfather, Darby. They were moments filled with music, connection, and community that have stayed with me throughout my life.

As a mum of three in a wonderfully neurodiverse household, I’ve experienced firsthand how important it is for children to have safe, supportive spaces where they can be themselves.

Combined with my background in early childhood education and my experiences as a dance mum, I saw the need for a studio in Tieri that focuses on inclusivity, connection, and confidence — not pressure or competition. Igniting Dance Studio was created to be that space.

Where is the studio located?
We are based at the Tieri Civic Centre.

When did you open?
We officially opened in early 2026.

What do you hope the studio will bring to the town and people of Tieri?
We hope to bring connection, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging to the community.

In a small town like Tieri, community is everything and our studio is an extension of that. We want every child to feel seen, valued, and supported, while giving families a place to come together, build friendships, and share meaningful experiences.

Who is on your team?
I lead the studio as Director, alongside my daughter Sophia. She teaches the majority of our classes and brings incredible energy, skill, and connection to our dancers. We are also supported by dedicated family members and volunteers from the community who help bring everything together.

What classes do you offer?
We offer a range of classes designed to suit all ages and abilities:

• Ballet – a classical style focusing on technique, posture, and grace.

• Jazz – energetic and fun, combining technique with upbeat movement and performance style.

• Contemporary – expressive and emotional, blending technique with storytelling through movement.

• Acro – a mix of dance and acrobatics, teaching strength, flexibility, and safe tumbling skills.

• Preschool Dance – creative, playful classes introducing rhythm, movement, and confidence in a fun environment.

• Adult Classes – welcoming, supportive classes designed for fitness, fun, and connection.

What age ranges do you cater for?
We cater for movers and shakers from 1-year-old through to adults.

How much are the classes?
Individual classes range from approximately $13 – $20, depending on the class length and style. Discounts are available for multiple class passes.

Do you have to be a member?
Yes, all students need to complete an enrolment process which includes a one-off registration fee. That fee covers admin, insurance, music licensing, and a studio shirt.

When do the classes run?
Classes run throughout the week during school terms, with a full timetable available through our enrolment system and social media pages.

Who teaches the classes?
Sophia and I both teach the classes, with a strong focus on creating a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

What’s your background in dance?
While my early experience in dance was recreational, my deeper involvement came through years as a dance mum, supporting my children through their own dance journeys.

I’ve also built a career in early childhood education, which strongly influences my teaching philosophy — focusing on development, inclusion, and emotional wellbeing.

I am currently completing my Dance Teaching Skill Set to continue expanding my knowledge in safe dance practices and effective teaching methods.

What’s a common misconception about dancing?
That dance is only for naturally talented or flexible people, or that it must be competitive.

At Igniting Dance Studio, we believe dance is for everyone! It’s about expression, confidence, and joy, not perfection.

What’s your favourite style of dance?
I love all styles, but I have a soft spot for expressive styles like contemporary that allow dancers to tell a story and connect emotionally through movement.

What are your top tips for someone with two left feet?
Start anyway! Confidence comes with practice. Focus on enjoying the music, not getting everything perfect. And remember: everyone starts somewhere.
