OCC Hosts First ‘MINEher’ Session for 2026

To kick start the season, they leaned into the ‘Give to Gain’ theme of the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD). The IWD campaign encouraged a mindset of generosity and collaboration, and OCC’s ‘Give to Gain’ for this session was DiSC® profiling. 

In a previous MINEher event, Kylie Ah Wong, Director of Health and Safety at Glencore Coal Assets Australia, shared how understanding her own DiSC profile had been instrumental throughout her career, particularly in developing self-awareness, understanding the impact of her communication style on others, and adapting her approach to leadership and stakeholder engagement. 

“Kylie’s presentation garnered a great deal of interest amongst participants in DiSC profiling as a professional development tool,” explains Michelle Cody, HR Manager at OCC. 

“For women in the mining industry – where the ability to influence across technical, operational, and leadership groups is often critical to success – understanding your DiSC profile can be a powerful tool for boosting confidence, tailoring communication, building relationships, expanding influence, and advancing career growth,” 

OCC engaged Danielle Duell from People with Purpose to facilitate DiSC profiling along with an interactive development workshop for participants.

The program included:

• Individual DiSC assessments and personalised reports for each participant

• A facilitated on-site workshop to interpret results and understand individual communication and behavioural preferences

• Practical application of DiSC principles to communication, teamwork, influence, conflict resolution and workplace relationships

• Discussion and reflection on how different personality styles approach challenges, decision-making, change and collaboration.

The workshop was highly engaging and practical, providing participants with tools that could be immediately applied in day-to-day workplace interactions and leadership situations.

“A key benefit of the session was the level of discussion and self-reflection it generated,” reflects Michelle. “Participants explored why they are naturally drawn to certain types of work, situations and ways of communicating, while also developing a greater appreciation for the differing styles and perspectives of others.”

The workshop created a common language for discussing communication preferences and helped participants better understand how to adapt their approach to build stronger working relationships and achieve more effective outcomes.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with participants valuing the practical nature of the workshop and the opportunity to gain deeper insight into both themselves and their colleagues. 

The session aligned strongly with the objectives of the MINEher program by supporting personal growth, leadership capability, confidence and connection across women in mining at OCC.

Events with Purpose

The Women in Mining ‘MINEher’ event series is all about connection, conversation, and community. The aim is to bring women across different parts of OCC together to share experiences, learn from one another, and build support networks that make everyone stronger.

The quarterly events are intended to be relaxed and honest, covering a wide range of topics including career development, leadership, resilience, and balance. Importantly, they give OCC’s female workers a chance to hear from others who have navigated similar challenges and opportunities throughout their careers.
