New Health Services at Tieri Medical Practice

In June 2023, Tieri Medical Practice & Physiotherapy was taken over by Heart of Australia under a joint initiative with Atticus Health. We spoke with them to find out what their plans are for the Practice and the services it provides to Tieri.

What can you tell us about the Heart of Australia?

Heart of Australia provides equal access to specialist healthcare for Australians living in rural and remote communities. We deliver medical specialists and their equipment onboard our fit-for-purpose mobile health clinics – the Heart Trucks – ensuring country Australians are given an equal chance at living a long and healthy life.

What’s your goal for Tieri’s Medical Practice & Physiotherapy?

Our aim is to bring together the strengths of General Practice (through Atticus Health) and the specialist services of Heart of Australia to create an integrated, gold-standard medical clinic that supports mine workers and the wider Tieri community.

By broadening the scope of services on offer at the Practice, we hope to significantly reduce the need for patients to travel outside of their community to receive comprehensive healthcare.

What services do you currently provide?

Tieri Medical Practice provides all General Practice services, pre-employment medicals and coal board medicals, physiotherapy, drug and alcohol screening, immunisation and vaccinations, and pathology collection.

Under Heart of Australia and Atticus Health, new services have been added to the existing scope, including:

• Sleep studies
• Overnight blood pressure monitoring
• Overnight Holter monitoring to record your heart rate and rhythm
• Spirometry to assess how well your lungs work
• Complex lung function testing.

In addition to your regular services, you recently launched a new cardiology service for Tieri…

That’s right. On Tuesday 15th August 2023, Heart of Australia was excited to launch its cardiology services in Tieri, thanks to our Heart Trucks. Every quarter, the Heart Trucks will arrive in town to provide cardiology consultations and diagnostics to patients.

If you think you need to see a Heart of Australia heart specialist, chat to your GP at Tieri Medical Practice & Physiotherapy. If they believe a visit to the cardiology specialist is right for you, they will provide you with a referral to see Heart of Australia when we are next in town…which is December 2023.

Who makes up the team at the Medical Practice?

We have Dr Beom Koh (Primary GP), Yvette Watts (Registered Nurse), Alex Jaquet (Physiotherapist), visiting female GPs from Atticus Health and our Cardiology Specialists from Heart of Australia.
