The new rules relating to e-bikes and e-scooters are now in force and I encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with these. Resources are available online through Queensland government websites so please look them up through there, rather than Facebook or other online groups, for example:
E-Bike rules in Queensland – qld.gov.au
Rules for personal mobility devices – qld.gov.au
I wish to say that my interactions with everyone riding e-bikes and e-scooters in town have been very positive and I am encouraged to see the changes in behaviour that have already occurred. Please keep up the good work.
The only thing I wish to highlight with these new changes is that the fine for not wearing a helmet is now $518, which is a significant increase. Please, buy a helmet and save yourself some money…and perhaps your life.
There have been instances of hooning behaviour in town, primarily people doing burnouts and skids. As a result, I have had to immobilise two vehicles in the last few months and will continue to patrol for further offending. The government takes a dim view of this, and penalties can include your vehicle being seized and destroyed.
Another offence that I’m seeing is the evasion of Police. If Police activate lights and sirens, you must pull your vehicle over safely within a reasonable time. We will always give some leeway in relation to this, so long as you are clearly looking for somewhere safe to pull over.
If you refuse to pull over or take steps to actively avoid Police such as speeding off or driving dangerously, then you will be charged with evading Police. If you’re found guilty, the minimum penalty for this is approximately $8,600 or 50 days in jail, with a two-year disqualification of your license.
I am continuing traffic operations and have been pleased with the driving behaviour I have encountered on the road. Please remember that the speed zones around the current Tieri water pipeline works are enforceable and are there to help protect the workers on these sites…much like the safety procedures at the mine site to keep you all safe.
All the fines went up on 1st July 2026 meaning it’s now even more expensive to exceed the speed limit. You work hard for your money and pay tax on almost everything you do, don’t make extra unnecessary ‘donations’ to the government for something as easy to avoid as speeding.
There will also be more random breath testing in town so please, if you are going to drink don’t drive. It’s not worth it. I would like to spend my whole posting here in Tieri without having to charge anyone for drink-driving.
I have obtained permission from council to manage the registration of golf buggies travelling to and from the Golf Club. This means one less step for you to have the process formalised.
I’ve placed a sheet at the Golf Club for those wishing to drive their buggies on the road to fill in. If your buggy is registered, put the details on the sheet and I will deliver permission slips to the Club for you to collect, rather than having to come into the station. I would like everyone to be compliant by the end of September so we can make sure everyone is properly covered.
Thank you to everyone who has come down for a chat on Wednesday mornings. I am starting to find my feet in town now and am looking forward to meeting more of you in the coming months.
If you have any questions or are looking for advice, please come and see me and I will help as much as I can. I’ll be at Tieri bakery on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 – 9:30am for informal chats and would love to see you.
A person travelling in or on a wheeled recreational device or toy with propellant attached to it or to themselves can be fined $241!
*Fines that I have never seen handed out, but are there if needed.
