Meet Nathan Ban – Tieri Local for 9 years

4 Mar 2021

We recently sat down with Nathan to find out more about what family life is like in Tieri and exactly what it is about this top little town (and its community) that made him put down roots.

How long have you lived in Tieri and can you tell us a bit about your lifestyle here?

For a young family with little kids, Tieri is the perfect town. We have lived here since 2013 and I love how close we are to everything, but also far enough away to disconnect when we need to. Our kids aren’t overexposed to the digital world and I get to be a really involved member of the community here, everyone is really friendly.

What do you like about working at Oaky Creek Coal from culture standpoint?

Everyone is busy and there’s always something new to be working on, but whenever you need to see someone, no matter how busy they are, they’re always willing to help – it’s a very supportive team of people.

What does a ‘day in the life’ of an Electrical Engineer look like at Oaky Creek Coal?

There are always engineering systems that we need to manage and ask ourselves “what can we do to improve this?” On a quiet day, we review standards, electrical drawings, electrical operating procedures, electrical engineering management requirements – we keep systems tidy and operating safely and effectively. On a ‘not-so-quiet day’ when something has gone wrong, or we have lost power we are busy getting permits, assessing the situation and implementing solutions.

Are you part of any local sporting teams in Tieri?

I was part of the social Touch Football team in town. I have found that sport is a great way to meet other locals. My kids enjoy swimming and attend the Swimming Club every Thursday, and it’s been really great watching them grow in confidence in the water.
