Karaoke is Coming to Town at the Tieri Brolga Hotel

Named after the bird, Tieri Brolga Hotel has been a fixture on Tieri’s social scene since the mid-80s. Today, under the management of Cheryl Tabone, the pub is expanding its offering.

“Tieri is more than just a town, it’s a community,” says Cheryl. “We want to make the pub a place where all members of the community, including children, can come for some food and drink whilst spending time with their friends and family.”

Cheryl arrived in Tieri in August 2021. She moved here from Brisbane to be with family. She started work at the pub as Duty Manager shortly after arriving and quickly moved into the role of Manager.

“I’d only been here for eight weeks when it was the town Christmas party. I remember walking to the toilets and saying hello and having a quick chat with more people than if I’d gone to an event back in Brisbane where I’d been living for the last 10 years. That sums Tieri up for me – everyone is so friendly. If anyone asks for help, people will always be there.”

It’s this sense of community that’s driving Cheryl to make the pub more family friendly. Top of the list to make this happen is to bring karaoke to town!

“We’re still working out the details but the goal is to give the town something fun to do, early in the evening so the kids can come along too. We want the kids to sing their favourite songs and the adults to…you could even get the whole family singing along together!”

Karaoke nights will be a regular feature on the pub’s weekly events calendar, along with:

• Tuesdays: Meat Raffle – you can buy your tickets any time, just pop into the pub or the bottle shop any day of the week. Winners are drawn at 8pm Tuesday night. If you’re not there, Cheryl and the team will call you to let you know you’ve won.
• Thursdays: Steak Night – get a 300g rump steak, with chips, salad and your choice of sauce for only $19.90 (dine in only).
• Fridays: ‘Jag the Joker’ – get a raffle ticket with every transaction. Pick a card and win a prize. All cards have a small prize attached to them so you’re guaranteed to win something. But if you pick the Joker, you win the cash jackpot of $50 or more. “If it doesn’t get picked, it rolls over to the following week,” explains Cheryl. “The biggest cash prize we’ve ever given away was over $2,000!”
• Sundays: Free Pool – challenge the kids or your mates to a game of pool.

“We’re also hoping to hold more Sunday afternoon live music sessions so the kids can come too,” says Cheryl.

“We’ve recently had Derek Smith and Big Pups play here. Sunday afternoons work well – the kids can run around out the back but everyone can still be home early enough for work and school the next day.”

With so much going on, Cheryl’s grateful for her “hard-working and supportive” team: Misty, Madison, Tracey, Jill  and  Emma who has recently left but played a big role at the pub, and Christina who recently joined as Duty Manager after arriving in Tieri with her family.

“The pub is our home and all of us want to keep it running smoothly and to give the people of Tieri a place to come and relax…but please……stop taking my glasses home with you!”
