Investing in our Community – Apply for a Grant Today!

3 Oct 2023

Every year, Glencore invests thousands of dollars to help community-focused organisations get their ideas off the ground to the benefit and engagement of the people in Tieri and the surrounding communities. These ideas range from buying much needed resources or equipment, through to large scale events.

In the last quarter, the following have received an Oaky Creek Coal Community Investment Grant:

  • Tieri State School P&C Association for children’s rides for inclusion in their Tieri 40th Birthday School Fete, raising funds for TSS
  • Tieri Local Ambulance Committee for catering and prizes for their Tieri 40th Birthday Trivia Night, raising funds for LAC
  • Tieri Family Unit & Child Health Centre for catering and prizes for their Tieri 40th Birthday Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising funds for Cancer Council
  • Tieri MEU Oaky North Lodge for BBQ catering supplies for the Tieri 40th Birthday Markets, raising funds for CH Karate
  • Capella Campdraft Association for IT equipment upgrade including computer, printer and software
  • Tieri Golf Club for an irrigation pump replacement
  • Capella Rodeo Club: for the 2023 Capella Rodeo (see below)

In kind support was also provided through:

  • Accommodation and meals for visiting health services (Women’s Health Nurse), educational Indigenous artist and performer, and fundraiser band
  • Venue hire fee waiver (Tieri Civic Centre) for Tieri State School concert and rehearsals
  • Trainer and assessor training for Local Ambulance Officer

The 2023 Capella Rodeo was held on the 26th August at the Capella Covered Arena. Thanks to the valuable support from Glencore, Capella Rodeo was one of the largest rodeos in Queensland, with over 400 competitors, more than 1000 spectators and a prize pooling totalling over $40,000.

The event kicked off at 8am with a full day of rodeo events, before the main performance at 6pm with a near full capacity grandstand to take in the spectacle.

The Glencore big screen provided an elite spectator experience with instant replays and sponsor advertising displayed throughout the evening. There was something for all ages at the Capella Rodeo this year, with a free dedicated kids’ entertainment corner including jumping castles and face painting. Another new addition to the Capella Rodeo this year was our food service being outsourced to several top notch food trucks which were a hit with the patrons. The Capella Rodeo also had our usual bar and dancing til late, lucky gate prizes and courtesy bus. The designated sponsors area with catered food and drink was a great success and acknowledgement to our valued gold and platinum sponsors.

This year the annual Ross Ford Memorial bronc ride shoot-out was won by Mitch Lansdowne on Midnight Johnny, a favourite horse of Ross’ who had his final trip before his well earned retirement.

Capella Rodeo 2023 was a huge success and a wonderful event for our local community. Our committee appreciates Glencore’s commitment to our beloved sport of Rodeo and thank them again for their generous contribution. We look forward to continuing this valuable relationship into 2024 and beyond, as we strive to make Capella Rodeo one of the largest and most respected rodeo events in Australia.
