Name: Megan Adamski
How long have you been with Glencore and Oaky Creek?
I started with Glencore at Oaky Creek Coal in March 2026.
What’s your current role?
Graduate Geologist.
What are you responsible for?
As a graduate my role is to basically learn, see and do as much as I can. Most often I shadow the mine geologist to learn how to do that role.
What does a typical day look like for you?
On a normal day I get to work around 5am to suss life out. Most days we will go underground in the morning to do some mapping. We are usually back up on the surface around lunchtime to get some work done in the office during the afternoon.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
That I’m given the opportunity to be curious; I’m always learning new things. I get to work with so many people as well and everyone is always happy to help.
What’s the most challenging part?
Sometimes it can get a little overwhelming with everything being new and completely different from anything I’ve done before.
Have you always worked in the mining industry?
No – I’ve spent the last three years in Brisbane at university, during which I was working as an instructor at a children’s horse riding camp.
What attracted you to the mining industry, Glencore and OCC/Tieri?
I grew up in Tieri so I’ve been surrounded by the mine my whole life. I found myself with Glencore after being accepted into the grad program and I got placed at Oaky Creek for my first rotation!
If you weren’t working as a geologist, what would be your ideal job?
Probably working as a ringer in North Queensland or the Northern Territory. Either that or I’d be off travelling the world, which I’ll probably do after I’ve finished the grad program.
What do you like to do outside of work?
You’ll always find me running. Aside from that, I enjoy being able to do some property work for family and friends.
Who do you spend your time with?
Most weekends I’ll be off hanging out with the other graduates in Queensland. I’m also lucky enough to have family all around Central Queensland so I spend a fair bit of time with them.
What’s a little known fact about you?
I’m a keen runner and compete in the 400m running, 800m running and 400m hurdles, having run for regional Australia at the Oceania Championships. I’m also a one hit wonder on the harmonica (the only song I can play is Ring of Fire).
What movie have you watched and rewatched the most…and why?
I’m not much of a movie watcher. If you asked me if I’ve seen it, my answer 99% of the time is no.
What song will you always turn up louder?
I have a new favourite song every week but I’m a Slim Dusty fan at heart and a classic we always play is ‘Three Rivers Hotel’.
Favourite quote?
“Do it anyways”…or something that I’m always saying is “Sick biccies”!
