COVID-19 Facts

The global pandemic caused by the Coronavirus has made significant changes to our day to day life. But what do we actually know about this disease? COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus. Previous strains include severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) that killed 774 people in the early 2000s, and the MERS Virus – or “camel flu” – that emerged in the Middle East in 2012.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Some people will recover easily, and others may get very sick very quickly.

Downloading the app is something you can do to protect you, your family and friends and save the lives of other Australians. The more Australians connect to the COVIDSafe app, the quicker we can find the virus.
