Community Events

4 Jul 2023

Events are the heart and soul of Tieri. Come rain or shine, it’s always fantastic to see everyone coming together as a community.

It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and passion to put on these events. We’d like to extend a big thank you to CTM Links, Glencore, and to the members of our community who create these events or volunteer at them, and for the resources and effort they provide to bring us all together in this top little town of ours!

Here’s a snapshot of our community events from the last few months…

Saturday, 15th April 2023 – Tieri Chillin & Grillin Event

Tieri Golf Club hosted the second biggest event of the year, Tieri Chillin’ & Grillin’ on Saturday 15th April.

Over 100 adults and nearly 30 children attended the social event designed to bring the community together for a good time. Music was provided by Luella, and local businesses Fat Daddy’s Smokehouse and Cheese and Kisses served up delicious delights!

Cocktails were carefully crafted by KombiKeg Capricorn, with a host of other beverages supplied by the Golf Club.

A big thank you to Ashley Edler at Glencore for organising the event, to the suppliers for making it so delicious and to you – the Tieri community – for making it such fun!

Monday, April 17th – Tieri Easter Morning Tea & Easter Egg Hunt

It was a fun and chocolate-filled morning for all ages as locals gathered at the Shopping Centre playground for Tieri’s Easter Morning Tea and Egg Hunt.

The annual event is funded by the Social Cohesion Project, a joint venture between Glencore and CTM LINKS that creates opportunities for the community to come together, form connections, support each other and make memories.

The Morning Tea kicked off at 9:00am with a huge variety of sweet and savoury options on offer, including sandwiches and cupcakes generously provided by Tieri Bakery and a fruit salad and savoury platter courtesy of Foodworks. Colouring in, playdough and other activities kept the kids entertained, but by 10.00am, they were eager to begin the Easter Egg Hunt.

Event organisers had hidden Easter eggs and other Easter objects around the community hall and park for kids to seek and collect. They could trade-in their findings for party prizes.

“There was so much energy throughout the morning, you couldn’t help but smile at the excitement on the kids’ faces,” says Kath Hema at CTM LINKS.

“A big thank you to the volunteers from our Tieri Youth Group for helping put the event together and to the Tieri community for their support. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting community projects and initiatives…including an even bigger and better Easter event for next year!”

It wouldn’t be Easter without our Easter Colouring Competition!

For every entry, the Tieri Social Cohesion Project donates $5.00 to the ‘Save the Bilby’ Fund. This year, we had 66 entries resulting in a $330 donation!

Well done to everyone who took part in the competition and thank you to Tieri Foodworks for displaying the entries – they brought a smile to everyone’s day as they did their grocery shopping.

Tuesday, 25 April 2023Tieri ANZAC Day

On Tuesday, 25th April, Tieri came together to commemorate the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our country on Anzac Day.

The day started at 4:45am with coffee at Tieri Bar & Grill before heading to Tieri Cenotaph at 5:30am for a Dawn Service. OCC General Manager Damien Wynn laid a wreath as the community paid tribute to the Anzacs who fought in the Gallipoli campaign and other conflicts.

It was back to Tieri Bar & Grill at 6 am where proceeds from the sale of breakfast rolls were collected for Legacy, a charity that supports the families of veterans. At 7am, Tieri Golf Club opened up for people to relax and reflect on the significance of the day.

From there, the community assembled at Tieri State School for a march back to Tieri Cenotaph, where OCC HR Superintendent, Paul Gardner, laid a wreath and the Morning Service followed.

For the golf enthusiasts, it was back to the Golf Club for the Golf Ambrose tournament at 10:30am to help raise money for Legacy. Lunch was followed by the traditional game of Two Up, another Anzac Day tradition.

Anzac Day is a special day in our nation’s history. It was heartwarming to see so many locals from Tieri and the surrounding communities take the time to honour and remember the sacrifices of our heroes.

A big thank you once again to local Al Barry for organising it all and to Tieri Bar & Grill and Tieri Golf club for donating proceeds of their sales to Legacy, over $1,750 combined!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

It’s the talk of the town – Tieri is turning 40!! Such a milestone warrants not just one event, but a whole fortnight’s worth of events so everyone gets to celebrate. Get these dates locked in your diaries and join bring your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours along for the fun:

Thurs 24th – Tieri Book Launch: What better way to kick off the festivities than with the launch of a specially commissioned book documenting the history of our top little town?

Historian and author Ray Christison has been busy gathering photos and stories from Tieri residents past and present. You can expect to read tales about what makes Tieri such a great family town; most memorable moments; much-loved businesses and community characters; famous people who have visited Tieri; and countless yarns, facts, and snapshots of Tieri and its community throughout the last 4 decades.

Fri 25th – School Fete: Tieri State School’s P&C committee – Kylie Sullivan (President), Sharon Abell (Treasurer) and Sarah Robertson (Secretary) – love nothing more than organising events that bring smiles to the faces of Tieri’s children. After working together for three years, they’ve got it down to a fine art, and the 40th anniversary School Fete is shaping up to be a festival of fun!

Held on site at the school from 5.30pm, there’ll be rides for both adults and kids, a jumbo slide and jumping castle. Each class will take on a stall, including a bottle stall, cake stall and side-show alley stalls such as ‘Guess the Jelly Beans’ and ‘Hoopla’.

You’re bound to leave with something thanks to the lucky door prizes, show bags, glow products and a ‘Cent Sale’ where you buy raffle tickets and decide which prize you want to go into the draw for.

“We’re so grateful to the local businesses and services in the area who continue to donate generous prizes, including an inflatable kayak with paddle from Town Services and an amazing skin care and scents package for men and women from the Pharmacy,” says Sarah.

There’ll be a DJ, plenty of food and drink options and, of course, a fete wouldn’t be complete without a Slushy machine!

“We can’t wait to see the kids’ faces on the day. We want them, and the entire community, to have the best time whilst checking out the school facilities.

If you’d like to get involved or make a donation, email Sarah and the P&C at pandc@tieriss.eq.edu.au.
