Tieri Sharks welcomed in a new committee this season. We took the opportunity to get to know them a little better. Here’s what we learned:
Name: Timmy Pfeifer
Role on the committee? President
What does this involve? Working as a team and ensuring we have enough volunteers to make sure our events are successful and our children have a positive experience and passion for swimming.
Best thing about being involved with Tieri Sharks? Watching our children grow and achieve their best personal results that they can in a sport they enjoy! But most of all it’s about having fun.
What do you hope to bring to the club? A positive ‘can do’ attitude and to show our kids that Dad’s can be a part of this too.
Why do you love swimming? I grew up doing swim club and it was a big part of my childhood. I want the same for my children. Without a great committee our kids wouldn’t have this opportunity. I’m proud to be a part of it.
Name: Jess Dawson
Role on the committee? Treasurer
What does this involve? Budgets and reporting on amounts payable. Making sure that Club funds are collected, and receipts issued. Ensuring safe custody of the Club’s financial records and preparing of financial reports.
Best thing about being involved with Tieri Sharks? My children are training to keep improving their swimming each week, teaching water safety, social skills, and time management skills.
What do you hope to bring to the club? A positive attitude and collaboration with other parents and swimmers.
Why do you love swimming? Teaching water safety, life saving skills, water confidence, and teamwork
Name: Tania Marttila
Role on the committee? Secretary
What does this involve? Taking the minutes from swim club meetings and any other forms that need attending to.
Best thing about being involved with Tieri Sharks? Watching my children’s confidence improve in their swimming as well as the social aspect with their peers.
What do you hope to bring to the club?Encouragement, positivity, support and fun.
Why do you love swimming? I love swimming as it’s great fitness, it’s a sense of calm and it’s a great way to connect with my family.
Name: Natalie Walsh
Role on the committee? Race secretary
What does this involve? All things computer, I make our meets for Thursday night and set up the computer system to make our club nights run smoothly.
Best thing about being involved with Tieri Sharks? I love watching all the kids race every week and get a new PB (personal best) time. It’s great watching how much the kids grow!!!
I also love going to the race meets around the Central Highlands and competing against other towns. It’s a great night on a Thursday watching the kids swim. Most importantly though, when I think of the best thing about being involved with the Sharks, it has to be our amazing coach, Belsie. The kids, parents and the committee all absolutely adore her and are so grateful for what she contributes to the club. The time and effort she puts into everyone’s kids – even though hers don’t swim anymore – is incredible. She goes above and beyond to support their swimming adventure. On behalf of all of us, thanks Belsie!
What can members look forward to in the coming season? We are hoping to host our Tieri Sharks Shield Carnival in January. This is always a fun day, seeing all the local towns come to Tieri for our meet. We’ll confirm the exact details with members once they get finalised.
