Inside Out With… Laura Danter

14 Aug 2026

How long have you been with Glencore and Oaky Creek?
I’ve been at Oaky Creek for around eight months.

Can you tell us about your current role?
I’m a Contracts Support Officer.

What does your role involve?
My role involves processing and authorising contractor claims, raising purchase orders and purchase requisitions, and ensuring contractor pre-qualifications are current or in progress for both existing and new vendors.

What does a typical day look like for you?
My day usually starts at 6am. I get ready for work, have breakfast, feed our fur babies, Cleo and Leo, then head in for the day. At work, I process and authorise claims, update vendor registers, and help with anything else that comes my way.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love that there are so many moving parts in this role and that every day is different. I’m also very lucky to work with an incredible and supportive team.

What has been the most challenging part of the role?
Definitely keeping up with all the moving parts, but that’s also what makes the role exciting.

Have you always worked in the mining industry?
No, this is my first role in the industry. Before this, I worked as a flight attendant with Virgin Australia for three years. Prior to that, I worked in corporate finance and personal assistant roles.

What attracted you to the mining industry, Glencore and Oaky Creek?
My fiancé, Pat, is a Coordinator at Oaky Creek Surface (OCS). About nine months ago we decided to move from Brisbane to Tieri for a great opportunity and a fresh start. We’ve really enjoyed becoming part of the local community and experiencing a different pace of life. I was attracted to Glencore because of the variety of opportunities to grow my skills, expand my knowledge, and progress within the business.

If you weren’t working as a Contracts Support Officer, what would your ideal job be?
I’d love to run my own business in the natural beauty industry.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with my fiancé and our fur babies, travelling, catching up with friends, cooking, baking, camping, trying new foods, volunteering at the golf club, and unwinding with paint-by-numbers and a glass of wine. I also enjoy getting involved in the local community where I can.

Who do you spend most of your time with?
My family and friends.

What’s a little-known fact about you?
I have a Diploma in Health Science and have been developing my own natural skincare business, Mystical Rose, over the past four years. I’m passionate about natural wellness and creating products using quality ingredients.

I’m also a Justice of the Peace (Qualified) in Queensland, a massive animal lover, and – many moons ago – I had the amazing opportunity to sing at the Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane a few times.

What movie have you watched and rewatched the most, and why?
Mamma Mia! – I love the soundtrack and it’s such a fun, feel-good movie.

What song will you always turn up louder?
Rainbow in the Dark by Dio.

Do you have a favourite quote?
