A Message From The Police

8 Aug 2026

Carbeen St Theft

While investigations are continuing into the theft of a vehicle from Carbeen St, it’s a timely reminder to lock your vehicle and be mindful of where you keep your keys.

Remember to lock up your house whenever you’re not home, and place your keys somewhere safe at night. Most vehicle thefts come from keys being left by the front door, so find an alternative location.

Road-Related Enforcement

So far this year, there have sadly been 132 fatalities on Queensland roads, with fatigue and speed major contributing factors. As such, local police will maintain a presence with radar operations on major and minor roads.

Mind your speed and remember to stop, revive and survive.

There will also be an increased focus on drink driving, with more RBT operations, both fixed and mobile, on the roads. I’ll be stopping random vehicles for testing, so please, if you are going to drink, don’t drive.

Golf Buggies, e-Bikes & e-Scooters

For those of you wishing to drive your golf buggy to and from the golf course, the buggies have to be conditionally registered before I can give authorisation. All this and more will be included in information packs that will be left at the Club detailing the process.

There will be a short amnesty for everyone to get their buggies registered before enforcement action will commence. It’s not arduous, but you do have to speak with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

I am continuing to focus on safety for e-scooter and e-bike riders, namely by enforcing the use of helmets. It is an offence to ride either of these items without wearing a helmet, and you could incur a fine of $166. Legislation aside: concrete hurts. It’s hard, a lot harder than your head, so keep yourself safe and wear a helmet.

I also encourage all riders to familiarise themselves with – and follow – the rules of the road and all the other rules associated with riding these items. There’s a lot of misunderstandings out there and people often think that because they’re not driving a car, the rules of the road don’t apply to them. For example, did you know it is an offence to use a mobile phone while riding a bike? And if you’re caught, it’s the exact same fine as if you were driving a motor vehicle – $1,251 at last count!

Station News

The station will be open Wednesday’s from 10:00am – 12:00pm for all inquiries, operational requirements permitting. If I am not in, please call on 07 4932 3970 and leave a message and I will get back to you to organise a time to meet.

A reminder that the Police station is not equipped to take money, so all gun license and registration inquiries need to go to Emerald. I no longer do any TMR or Suncorp trading either.

Coffee with a Cop

I am starting a casual ‘Coffee with a Cop’ at Tieri bakery on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 – 9:30am for informal chats.

If you want to know about the dreaded ticket quotas, have a law-related question, are interested in joining the police force, or just want to have a chat, please come down and see me at the bakery.

All formal inquiries should still be directed through the station.

Obscure Fine of the Quarter*

Pedestrians who fail to use the footpath can be fined $66!

*Fines that I have never seen handed out, but are there if needed.
