Tieri State School isn’t the only one under new leadership. Corey Kempthorne has recently taken on the role of Principal at Capella State High School…
Hello Tieri Community!
For those of you who I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Corey Kempthorne and I am the new principal of Capella State High School – a posting that I am very excited about!
I have been a principal for seven years in rural and remote schools across Queensland including three and a half years at Stonehenge State School, approximately 150kms South-West of Longreach and two and a half years at Winton State School, approximately 150kms North West of Longreach.
At these schools I thoroughly enjoyed the rural aspects and thrived in the isolation. In these schools I began crafting my leadership style and today, have a very transparent and relational approach. I am also deeply passionate about opportunity and pathways for students and will work tirelessly to ensure that Capella State High School is fulfilling the needs of the children in its enrolment.
Half of this term has been and gone and I’m certain that I speak on behalf of the staff and students when I pose the question, “where has the time gone?” Already there have been numerous changes to our school.
Firstly, I want to acknowledge Ruby Foster and Gerowyn Lacaze for the two and a half years and four and half years of service respectfully. Their leadership can be felt across all areas of the school and their absence has certainly been noticed.
This brings me to the first change – at the end of this term I will be advertising the Head of Department position previously filled by Ruby and appointing someone to start in term 2.
In term 2, the principal position previously filled by Gerowyn will be advertised and a permanent principal will be appointed for the rest of the year. I am looking forward to both of these processes.
Finally, as a staff we have been working exceptionally hard to clearly define our behaviour management processes across the entire school. A key element of this process is increased communication with parents/caregivers about both positive and negative behaviours. It takes time to change culture!
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Corey
