This is a challenging time for parents with increased pressure placed on adult caregivers to inform, but not alarm, their children with facts about COVID-19. This combined with the temporary changes for education providers, the introduction of home schooling and social restrictions – there is a lot to stay on top of.

Here you will find information on changes to education at the Tieri State School and tips to help you and your children through these changing times.


Advice for parents and carers on returning to schools

Queensland’s current COVID-19 response measures have helped to flatten the curve of coronavirus spread and have contributed to our State’s continued success in limiting the number of cases and transmission in the community. Queensland is now seeing very low rates of COVID-19 infection. I know that in recent weeks many of you have been making some big sacrifices to ensure that your children can keep learning from home, often while juggling many other commitments. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thank you. On 2 May 2020 we eased some of the restrictions in Queensland. Explaining COVID-19 to kids

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by everything you’re hearing about COVID-19 right now. It’s also understandable if your children are feeling anxious too. Children might find it difficult to understand what they are seeing online and on TV – or hearing from other people – so they may be vulnerable to feeling anxiety, stress and sadness. But having and open and supportive discussion with your children can help them to understand and cop better.

Keeping kids safe online

Even if you are at home together, it is not possible to monitor your child’s online activities ever second of the day. It is important to talk with them about online safety issues to help develop their critical thinking and ability to make good choices. Find out the key safety issues for young people including a range of practical tips and advice. It covers common online safety issues, using parent controls, what to do if something goes wrong and responding to issues like cyberbullying and inappropriate content.

Social distancing (also called physical distancing) is one way to help slow the spread of viruses and can help protect the people in our community who are most at risk of getting really sick from COVID-19. Term 2 arrangements Tieri State School

From Monday 25th May, all students are able to return to school. I join our entire school team in warmly welcoming your child back. We have missed them. The decision to return to school for all Queensland students is supported by Queensland’s Chief Health Officer and aligns with progressive easing of restrictions as part of the Government’s response to COVID-19.
