Apprentice Success at Oaky Creek North

28 May 2024

Congratulations to all Glencore Apprentices for successfully completing their trade qualifications and the Glencore Apprentice Program, with many taking permanent positions within our Glencore businesses.

At the beginning of the year, Glencore’s Queensland Apprentices all gathered in Emerald for their presentation day and to recognise their achievements.

A special shout out to the following Oaky Creek Coal Apprentices for receiving some of the top honours:

  • Tom Britt: Team Competition Leadership Award – This award was given to an individual who displayed outstanding leadership through the team challenges during the apprentice week. Tom competed fiercely and demonstrated great leadership – well done, Tom!
  • Cameron Spencer: 2023 Electrical Apprentice of the Year – This award was based on overall scores for the entire 2023 year, and is based on a range of criteria including TAFE results, apprentice challenges, attendance record and more – well deserved, Cameron!

A special mention also goes to past Oaky North employee, and son of our very own Andy Morris:

  • Dylan Morris: 2023 Overall Glencore Apprentice of the Year – whilst Dylan is currently at Glencore’s Hail Creek Operation, we like to believe the skills acquired to take home the award were developed here at OCC! Outstanding achievement Dylan!

Glencore’s four-year apprenticeship program enables participants to develop their skills, gain experience and expand their knowledge. It involves a combination of onsite, offsite and TAFE training. The program is open to candidates who have completed Year 10, through to mature age candidates.

Applications for the 2025 intake will open in May 2024. Keep an eye out for more details on the program and how to apply here.
