Peak Down Pirates – 2024 Season

7 May 2024

The Peak Down Pirates started playing again this year when the season kicked off on Saturday, 6th April.

Following this year’s AGM, the Committee remains the same, with Justin Madden as President, Nick Barry as Vice President, Mitch Reinke as Secretary and Axel Cutts as Treasurer.

“As a committee, we learnt a great deal last year. 2023 was a huge shot in the dark for us,” reflects Axel.

“Running the club should be a lot smoother this year, with a few new systems in place and a better understanding of what’s required.”

The team for the 2024 season is mostly made up of players continuing on from last year, which is testament to the passion and hard work that the Committee, the players and the community all poured into the Pirates. Excitingly, a few new players have joined the mix, adding fresh ideas and energy to the experience and commitment of the existing team.

“As a team, I think we are more confident of our positions which helps going into this season. We are all young and lack some size compared to the other teams, so we know how tough it will be this year,” says Axel.

“But we understand the importance of fitness, especially due to the struggle with playing numbers because of rosters, and have been busy training every Tuesday and Thursday. We encourage anyone to come along and join us at these sessions for some fitness and fun!”

To join the Peak Downs Pirates training, head to Tieri football fields, Langerak Park at 6:30pm, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You can follow the Pirates on Facebook and stay abreast of the upcoming matches and results here, or at the events calendar.

Welcome to Tieri Golf Club’s New Committee

Following the Golf Club’s AGM in December 2023, we give a warm welcome and big thank you to the following elected committee members.

  • President – Mat Lines
  • Vice-President – Mick Cutts
  • Secretary – Rebecca Kirkpatrick (Lines)
  • Treasurer – Arthur Dobeson
  • Golf Club Captain – Joshua Edmonds
  • Committee Member – Matty Martell
  • Committee Member – Denise Farrar
  • Committee Member – Fred Farrar

The committee is bigger and more diverse this year with a wide range of skills and perspectives on community and golf club ideas. The fresh thinking of incoming members is balanced – and benefitted – by the vast knowledge and experience of ongoing committee members, Mick Cutts and Arthur Dobeson, who have been with the Golf Club for many years.

“The Tieri Golf & Country Club is operated on a voluntary basis. While we have an elected committee to steer the club in the right direction, we can only survive due to the continued support of a wide range of volunteers,” explains Mat Lines, President.

“With the support of the local community, sponsorship from local businesses and ongoing commitment from all volunteers, we hope everyone will continue to enjoy the warm atmosphere of the Tieri Golf & Country Club.
